Trim-Tex Reveal Corner Install JP2
In this video I go through my procedure of installing Trim-Tex Reveal Corner Bead. It's a great looking bead when finished.

Click 4K in the settings for a clearer video. This will be another fun project for me. Just under 16,000sq ft of drywall. I'll be completely finishing the top floor first. The 2 temporary floors will be removed after I'm done to expose the walls and reveal a catwalk. The bottom floor walls can then be boarded up to where I ended off. There are 50 windows here that will all get some Trim-Tex Sup...

Coating A Nakymatone Invisible Speaker With A 32" Columbia Tomahawk

I've never heard of this brand before but coating it was simple with my 32" Columbia Tomahawk. I taped it first. It had 2 joints on all sides with a deep recess on the inner joints.
Taping Angles With A CanAm 2" AccuJust Flusher
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 года назад
Normally I use angleheads for taping angles but on renos I use CanAm flushers. In this video I'm showing the CanAm 2" AccuJust flusher. It's a little bulky and heavier than a standard flusher but works well. I need to break it in some more too.
Barrie Rd Thunder Bay, Ontario Drywall Taping Disaster
Просмотров 6502 года назад
I've started fixing a very poorly done taping job by grinding all the excess mud left by the previous "taper". I would have liked to pull all the mesh tape off but was unable to except for a few pieces. The flats and butts will get FibaFuse and the angles will get paper tape over the mesh.
Columbia Corner Cobra Demonstration

I love using my Columbia Corner Cobra to apply NoCoat bead that I buy in 100' rolls which I prefer over sticks since you can make them any length you'd like. Applying mud with my CanAm tube and flat applicator is easier and allows for a soft consistent coat. When loading mud by hand it's usually on the thicker side which can cause a wavy finish because it's more difficult to control the pressur...
Coating Belly Bands With A 24in Columbia Tomahawk
Просмотров 9892 года назад
A Columbia Tomahawk smoothing blade will make it easy to fill a 10" belly band. Getting your first coat on as flat as possible and filled all the way through is a task on any butt joint but the Tomahawk will do it seamlessly. (No pun intended lol)
Saving a bad taping job in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Просмотров 5712 года назад
Looks like I'll be tackling this bad taping job next. It's in the top 3 of the worst I've been asked to save. I feel bad for the owners and much worse for the original taper because no taper I know wants to have someone come in and finish their work properly. I wouldn't feel good knowing the real taper charged twice as much as the original job to fix the carnage. It's obvious the taper was very...

Auto taper mud thickness
Просмотров 3402 года назад
Auto taper mud needs to be quite thin. In Canada we have taping mud which has more glue in it than all purpose mud so we can water it down considerably without losing adhesion. My room temperature here is about 15°C/60°F. I prefer it cooler while taping. Here's how my auto taper mud looks after it's mixed.

Its a bummer they dont make thst cornerbead anymore. Hope they bring it back!
From what I understand if you contact Trim-Tex and they might be able to help you out if you need some. Unfortunately not enough of us used them and you can't blame Trim-Tex for not stocking it at suppliers.

Had no clue how to do that 7 years ago. I try to these days.
Still the best hawk and trowel video. Simple and straightforward
Hey my friend I got a question for you? On ICF built homes when they're hanging drywall are they landing their butt seams on the 8 inch OC plastic furring strips or are they landing the butt seams in-between them and are they using spray foam adhesive?
I have only attached the drywall to the plastic strips. I personally wouldn't feel good about gluing it without some backer with screws. Is there even a spray foam adhesive that will not eat the ICF insulation ?
@@Mudslingr Yes me too. I had read about some installers doing on what I asked about and yes they do make a water based foam adhesive just like the spray foam.
@@rotaxrider That's interesting. But experience tells me to make sure there are some screws on a solid backer .Vibration can cause cracks from hard bumps. And if there is no backer to "absorb" the shock there's a greater chance of having a problem. Maybe we need Trim-Tex to make a Buttboard for ICF. Bit it sure sounds easier to board with glue if you don't have to stop at a firring strip.
Yes it was helpful.
Is that the biggest , most complex job you had? Absolutely beautiful work.
Thank you ! I've had bigger. Each job has something unique and I try to enhance certain areas . No matter how big or how small I can always come up with something to add.
I feel your pain, we hired a taper for our house (as we needed it done fast - that is why you hire a pro! opposed to me who is pretty decent but takes a week per room) who turned every flat joint into a butt joint making 10 times the work per room as I hung the longest boards I could get up the stairs to minimize joints, used fibrefuse tape (which is f'ing awful to sand and fix, i would never touch it again IMO) as he claimed it makes everything flat (oh, must be your towel then as the walls are more bowed now than when he started). Followed the Butt joints with the wall giving us a zig zag when the sun shines on it. Then he sanded the crap out of it, exposed the paper tape in most of the corners (He had fancy taping tools?, should have been a nice finish and only a quick dust down to blend in?) And don't ask about the no-coat *sigh* he never prefilled, installed it last day in a hurry at the end of the job (as that is when it goes on..apparently??) and used watered down lightweight mud, which then shrank, never filled the dip, only the paper flange was holding it up, that a few staples which is bump buried, it then lifted in places and fell down. Anyways, 2 months of evenings later and an extra grand on materials (which was less than I budgeted for me to do the job initially, ) it turned out nice. Good thing I had lots of paper for my power sander, and I have now graduated from decent drywall finisher to apprentice plasterer having to skim coat every other wall and a few ceilings.
Sounds like he needs a lot more practice. Unfortunately, some go out on their own way too soon. Having the "fancy" tools is fine but knowing how to use them and getting used to them(making adjustments, etc...) is a different story. I can understand that sometimes you don't have a mentor and are trying to learn yourself. But it sure sucks as a customer when you end up with "that guy". Good to hear you fixed it up yourself. No matter how long it took, you learned a little more that could help in the future. And hopefullly the taper eventuallly gets better.
ah the old "house flipper special" brought to you by DIY Dan, the man who never realized that HGTV is "the pro-wrestling of home design".
great work by a master tradesman. and nice spot for the owner to retire too ;-)
Thank you ! The owner plans to stay there to the end. I would too.
That angle box , look at the torque on that handle. You must have abs like Arnold in his prime
I have abs. Just have never seen them.🤣 That's 10 foot ceiling torque !
You're very good at what you do, well done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I appreciate that very much.

That is 4' x 8' ceramic tile.
Somebody has way too much money. lol Also, those pauses on every cut are weird. I thought you were waiting for the camera person to be ready at first. What software are you editing with?
I'm not an editing professional obviuosly and not looking to win any filming awards. 😂 I used Capcut on this one.
What's the deal with the blue mud?
it's a gel formulated for mud. Makes it easier to see scratches and defects and it makes sanding easier. It's called Tapers Tint. The name has changed to Painters Tint.
2024 ebay has does for sale. Thanks for the video.

Seriously are you an artist then got into drywall or with drywall you discovered art?
Bored drywaller turned. I went to Trim-Tex in Chicago in 2012 for a 2 day course in "Drywall Art" and this is the kind of stuff I like to offer my customers now.
Very impressive, both on artistic creativity and drywall skill. About using stacks of cardboard; I wonder what you think about wet shimming those narrow returns with big blobs of Durabond?
I suppose that might work but It make crack the durabond when you screw into it and cause it to shift. And if you have poly in behind the durabond won't stick to it. I don't think I personally would try but that doesn't mean it won't work.
Hello, I am Maad from Morocco. I am a drywall craftsman. How can I find work in Australia?
Found a box of this on marketplace and going to try it. Never have done drywall so It seemed to be an easier solution to taping corners. I can't find hardly and reviews or videos on it. Did they stop making it for some reason?
I believe they changed iot out with a new product called Fast Edge.
Blue?
Called Taper's Tint. Made for mud. Helps to see scratches and pinholes.
What tape you usually use for taping?
Paper. Always
I’ve talked to siders ;they turn the blade around to cut vinyl siding, you do the same?
Usually, but this particular blade is not cooperating. I need another.
I used that bead a few years ago on a Lottery house. Beauty bead , but, I had a bunch of drops on bulkhead in basement , making a nice 3 way was tough. Had to hold your tongue just right@@Mudslingr
@@willkeith4944 Not simple but very doable with a little TLC
Nice work and nice to see you! What size staples do you use?? (Some guys only go long enough into the drywall, some want to hit framing)
Thank you. In my early days of using Trim-Tex beads I used a crown stapler with 1" crown staples. I found this to be a mistake. On new construction especially. If the new framing is not completely acclimated during install it can cause the bead to crack while it dries and shrinks over time. If the framing moves a bit so will the staple you put into the framing. I've had it happen only a handfful of times but that handful was a pain in the butt due to the work it took to fix it. Play safe and use 1/2" staples in my opinion.
@@Mudslingr Great explanation, Thank you
I think I'll pass on that stuff.
Why is that ?
I don’t think that room in the master bath is a shower. Maybe sauna or steam room, but I’m leaning towards sauna.
You are correct. I was mistaken. It will be a sauna.
Quite the house- but that view , wow. Somewhere around Thunder Bay?
Yes it is. Kam Current Rd off Onion Lake Rd. The snow is melting and the river is slowly appearing. Great view.
Long time no see! Looking forward to seeing you look after this place!!!
Thanks !
You on Instagram by any chance?

Hey man.
Hey ! 😀
I really wish someone would make a video on how to install chamfer bead on doorways with a slightly arched top. After weeks of searching, I finally fgot my hands on some chamfer bead and am beginning to install, but have not found a good tutorial on how to miter the top corners. Trim-Tex even has a exact example of the install, but no instructional on how to replicate. I guess I'll just wing it, not that it's too hard, just be nice to get some tips form others with experience with this type of product.
How much of an arch are you talking about ? I have done that once (only because it was a last minute thing and would not have normally attempted it) and I had to cut some slits into the bead which I then later had to fill with mud and caulking to make it proper.I was sure I had something in my YT or FB vids and have found nothing that will show you how. It will be about 6 weeks before I start another chamfer job and will make a video but that's probably too late for you. Make some short templates first in the corners. It's easier to measure that way and fill in the rest. Ever thought of just using some arch bead ?
What did you use to film this? I am really digging the sound of this!

Very nice tool to have and use. You won't be disappointed.
@@Mudslingr the nice thing about it is that you can use on the inside corners as well

The directions for these were the same as for anything else. Use taping mud and then finishing mud.

Very cool! I too love my tomahawks. Because you said you wanted to go bigger in a previous video I also picked up a 40 &48”. Love them!
Glad to hear you like them ! They make things so much easier when it comes to wide joints.
neet speaker... kinda nice that you can cover the whole thing.... guaranteed thats where the wife will put in a lag to hang a plant :)
LOL. I was thinking that too. Seeing as there seems to be a thin layer of black cardboard like material on the speaker it would definitely cause some damage. I just hope none of the 4 speakers goes dead. That's an expensive fix.
Just use paper beads on outside corners apply compound with bead box and regular bead roller piece work boys
Nothing wrong with bead. Although I only use Trim-Tex beads when I do .I prefer to fit full runs with NoCoat when a full bead won't. And you use less mud with NoCoat.
definitely not for piece work
Normally you don't have two butts side by side either. As you saw in the video it took me about 4 1/2 minutes to put on a nice first coat. The next two coats took about 2 minutes each. So about 8 1/2 - 9 minutes to make this double butt look good. Worth the outcome. This was the only one.
Thanks for not editing out the struggles. It helps us to see when a tool has a bit of a learning curve 👍
I'm assuming the drywall is 1/2" Is the belly board 3/8" ? Thank you
You would be assuming incorrectly. It's a half inch belly band. One side was factory and the other was a butt.
Fantastic work.... I'm a 22 year experienced drywaller in the states
Thank you. I apprreciate that. Maybe it will inspire you and others to do something like this.
